Job Function:

Minimum Education:

Associate's degree or equivalent in electronics or related area.

Minimum Experience:

One through three years of related experience; must be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.

Preferred Experience:

Additional years of related experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create layout and design, and also modify our existing MATV RF Distribution System. Maintain and repair cabling and equipment throughout all academic buildings, residence halls, and apartments on campus that currently have this service; measure signal strength at amplifiers or room cable drops using field strength meter; observe meter to evaluate reception and determine the cause of faulty reception; adjust and repair distribution system. Research and recommend equipment purchases when needed.
  • Answer customers’ inquiries or complaints and explain repair procedures and operation of this service; work directly with Building Maintenance Supervisors and the Superintendent of Housing and Residence Maintenance to coordinate repair on an as-needed basis.
  • Maintain and operate all system head end equipment; perform system evaluation checks and preventative maintenance as needed; confirm that system meets and maintains all current FCC regulations governing television distribution systems.
  • Receive work orders on system-related issues; report on work completion and nature of repair through the use of daily work log; keep supervisor informed of the status of the RF Distribution system and any problem areas of unusual repairs noted.
  • Monitor and track repair work orders; monitor and maintain replacement parts inventory; send and receive e-mail messages as a part of day-to-day work obligations.
  • Create and maintain system evaluation and status report as required by supervisor; includes quarterly amplifier level status reports, number, and type of complaints per stated period, etc.
  • Install, maintain and repair broadcast equipment for University Media Services; also includes WIPB, WBST, WCRD, WCRH, and other university departments.
  • Perform component-level repair of media-related equipment for Ball State University’s campus.
  • Provide engineering support for remote media productions and presentations, including teleconferences, sporting events, satellite uplinks, and downlinks.
  • Set up, check, operate, and monitor equipment for studio and remote productions; including equipment for distance learning programs (IHETS, etc.) as well as academic and promotional productions.
  • Perform component-level repair of media-related equipment for Ball State University’s campus.
  • Work in interdepartmental teams on production work, engineering work, quality control, scheduling, solving problems, and commercial broadcast productions.
  • Provide engineering support for broadcast transmission systems; including television transmitters, microwave links, satellite uplinks and downlinks, closed circuit TV, and fiber optics systems.
  • Apply thorough knowledge in the use of complex electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, computerized signal generators, voltmeters, waveform monitors, and the use and safe operation of other specialized test equipment
  • Monitor procedures and ensure the quality of work; document standard operating procedures; oversee the continuous update of systems as necessary.
