Assist with providing timely completion of costumes and costume pieces for all Department of Theatre and Dance productions.

Job Function:

Assist with providing timely completion of costumes and costume pieces for all Department of Theatre and Dance productions.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Education:

Bachelor's degree in fine arts or master's degree in costume design/technology.

Minimum Experience:

One year of costume construction or related experience.

Preferred Experience:

Three or more years of costume construction experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Costume Shop Director and Costume Designer with fittings.
  • Assist the Costume Shop Director with inventory, organization, and maintenance of the shop, materials, and stock.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Costume Shop Director.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Responsible for all wardrobe related activities; duties include:
    a. Working with the Costume Designer & Costume Shop Director to determine the wardrobe needs for each production
    b. Creating all wardrobe paperwork: wardrobe tracking/run sheets, actors’ dressing sheets, costume plots, check-in sheets, quick change information, etc.
    c. Preparing and maintaining dressing rooms
    d. Supervising and setting the schedule and for wardrobe and laundry crew and assigning the crew tasks throughout the run
    e. Attend tech/dress rehearsal as needed
    f. Choreographing and rehearsing quick changes
    g. Performing costume maintenance and repairs throughout the run of the production
    h. Supervising strike and completing laundry/dry cleaning at the end of the run
  • Responsible for the organization maintenance of the costume stock; duties include:
    a. Organizing and restocking costumes
    b. Removing unusable costumes
    c. Cleaning & Repairing Costumes
    d. Supervising student designers pulling costumes for productions.
  • Act as the main contact point for all costume rentals.; pull & organize costumes for rental to individuals and organizations.
  • Assist with construction and alteration of costumes as assigned by the Costume Shop Director.
  • Assist the Costume Shop Director in the supervision of tasks assigned to student staff and practicum students.
