Lecturer in Sustainable Cities
Job Description
Are you an academic with proven abilities to carry out teaching and research in sustainable cities? Do you have an excellent research record and proven success obtaining funding? Are you passionate about delivering an exceptional student experience in a research-intensive Russell Group University?
The Sustainability Research Institute (SRI) in the School of Earth and Environment is looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated environmental social scientist with a focus on sustainable cities, to lead our innovative, cross-university Masters in Sustainable Cities.
SRI is an internationally leading centre for research in the environmental social sciences. Our research specialisms include business and organisations for sustainable societies, environment and development, economics and policy for sustainability, energy and climate change mitigation, social and political dimensions of sustainability, and climate change adaptation, vulnerability and services. For this position, we are seeking applicants working on sustainable city issues such as urban climate change mitigation, urban climate adaptation, urban infrastructure, urban livelihoods, smart cities, and the role of cities in low carbon transformation. Applicants’ research should be highly interdisciplinary in nature, co-designed and co-produced with relevant city actors beyond academia such as businesses and commercial organisations, NGOS, public sector institutions, policy bodies, and communities.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in systems thinking and in cities in the global south. You will contribute to student education across the Sustainability suite of undergraduate and Masters programmes that focus on cities, in particular our prestigious MSc Sustainable Cities programme. This will include field courses and research dissertations. Successful candidates will need to show a proven track record of publications and funding applications. A willingness to work in collaboration with colleagues across the institute and wider University is also essential.
