SBGrid Consortium is a non-profit service center based at Harvard Medical School that has provided innovative computational resources, scientific software support, and educational programs to research institutions, laboratories, and groups within the global structural biology community for almost two decades. We support 400 academic, industry, and non-profit groups at 150 institutions in 22 countries and work with a wide network of collaborators, scientists, and contributing software developers. For this position, we seek a full-time, potentially remote, Cloud/HPC Solutions Expert to support SBGrid deployment in HPC and Cloud environments for our biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic members. The Cloud/HPC Solutions Expert will join a world-class technical team in a hybrid position that marries customer service with a strong technical foundation to develop, implement, and oversee adoption of best practices. The Cloud/HPC Solutions Expert will ensure that our customers maximize the value from their investment in SBGrid, serving as a liaison between the customer and the SBGrid ecosystem in partnership with curation, development, education, and administrative teams to develop advanced computational workflows to drive innovative structure determination approaches.


Job Specific Responsibilities:

Act as a primary engineer to drive deployment of scientific software in cloud environments.
Develop functional and technical knowledge of our internal software distribution platform and future directions to inform customers on availability and applicability of current and new features.
Meet with members from Biotech, Pharma, and Academia to identify needs and provide advice on how to better leverage SBGrid support. Travel to sites may be necessary.
Develop and document best practices for cutting-edge computing workflows to facilitate adoption and expert deployment using SBGrid operational standards.
Build relationships with users and become a trusted and strategic advisor to advocate for customers and ensure that services remain relevant and valuable.
Identify gaps in support, provide feedback/support to technical and administrative teams, and work collaboratively to develop tools, technologies, or education services to meet underserved needs.
Write customer meeting reports to summarize conversations and observations.
Act as the SBGrid liaison for AWS/HPC technical inquiries and issues, and work with the technical and administrative teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
You will participate in monthly production releases of applications and infrastructure and occasionally provide off-hours support when required.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills


College Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related field preferred
3+ years related experience in a professional environment in a similar role, with progressive growth in responsibilities and independent action.
Extensive experience with direct customer advocacy and engagement.
Familiarity with academia, biotech, and/or pharmaceutical companies a plus
History working to ensure customer satisfaction and promote adoption of services, developing product use-cases with customers, and contributing to product development.
Proven experience working with cross-functional teams and leading complex projects, with a readiness to seek advice as needed, remove obstacles that prevent the team from moving forward, prioritize work, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with experience creating or contributing to communications, technical, and user documentation to clearly deliver complex content. develop, implement, and maintain knowledge management systems.

Additional Information

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

This position is based in Boston, but the work may be done fully or primarily remote. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT).
