About the role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Assistant III with experience in microfabrication, bio-sensing, bioassay development and/or mechanical engineering to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Staff Engineer as part of the Bioinspired Therapeutics and Diagnostics focus area, you will work on research projects involving biomaterials, sensor fabrication and sensing technology integration into novel diagnostic and organ on chip platforms. In collaboration with senior staff, you will address the challenges posed by microfluidics and the integration of sensitive detection schemes into small foot print devices, and will contribute to the microfabrication of devices with low sample volume consumption, rapid sample-to-results, and high-throughput.
What you’ll do:
Contribute to the synthesis of biomaterials, the design and microfabrication of microfluidic devices, and the development of bioanalytical assays and testing of the analytical prototypes and platforms.
Design and troubleshoot experiments independently with guidance from academic
Collaborate with senior staff on benchmarking the performances of the bioanalytical sensing system against more conventional assays such as ELISA, PCR etc.
Perform laboratory support activities including ordering supplies and performing lab maintenance.
Participate in the preparation of manuscripts and patent applications with guidance and training from staff.
Present data and conclusions at meetings within the Wyss Institute under the supervision of staff.
What you'll need:
Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
Two or more years of laboratory experience in microfabrication, microfluidics, bio-sensing and biosensors, electrochemical, optical sensing, bioassay development, mechanical engineering, electric and/or electronic engineering or related areas or field is required. Advanced education may count towards years of experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Advanced academic degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, or Bioengineering preferred.
Candidates with previous experience in assay development, electrochemical and/or optical sensing, and mechanical engineering will be strongly considered.
Experience with microfluidic device is desirable.
Laboratory experience involving mammalian cell culture and basic cell biology techniques such as cell culturing, qPCR, or microscopy is strongly preferred.
Ability to work independently and to collaborate within a multidisciplinary group is essential.
Proficiency with software packages including Microsoft Office, CAD, Solidworks is required.
Good written and oral communication skills are essential.
Highly motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and able to take initiative.
This position will be based on our campus in Boston, MA and will require on-campus presence. Subject to business needs, the Wyss Institute generally supports flexible work arrangements.

This is a one year term position with the possibility of renewal.
