Position Description

The Department of Communication, Journalism and Media at Rider University seeks adjunct instructors for the Spring beginning January 2022. 

Specific classes with current need include:

COM 104 Speech Communication 
 
This position is to teach COM 104: Speech Communication, which covers the basic communication principles and strategies of public speaking. Various genres of oral communication are studied, with an emphasis on extemporaneous and impromptu forms of delivery. Students research, prepare, and deliver speeches that are then used as the focal point for the discussion of effective speaking and listening. 
 
COM 290 Professional and Strategic Speech
 
This position is to teach COM 290 Professional and Strategic Speech, which gives students the practical information necessary for effective communication in various business and professional settings (e.g., the fundamentals of communication, interpersonal relationships in professional settings, interviewing, intercultural aspects of communication, and group communication). Class assignments are given with emphasis on developing a knowledge and practical understanding of informative, persuasive, and impromptu presentations.

Position Requirements

COM 104 – Speech Communication Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Communication or a related field
  • Experience teaching public speaking courses

 
COM 290 – Professional and Strategic Speech Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Communication, Business or a related field
  • Experience teaching public speaking courses
