Job Description:
Postdoctoral research fellow position is open in the Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancer program at the Department of Surgery at the University of Miami. The GI Cancer research group is funded by multiple NIH grants. The research lab is actively engaged in advanced studies of functional genomics and the molecular basis of tumorigenesis in gastric and esophageal cancers. The lab employs in vitro models, genetically engineered mouse models, 3D organoid culture techniques, and various molecular and biochemical techniques. The laboratory is fully equipped with access to outstanding core facilities at the University of Miami School of Medicine and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Requirements:
This position requires a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field with a minimum of two years of postdoctoral research experience. To be considered, the applicant must have experience in stem cells, cancer biology, or cancer immunology with evidence of publications. Strong experience with basic molecular biology technology, sterile cell culture, and Western blotting is required. In addition, the applicant must have strong writing and communication skills, documented by peer-reviewed publications and presentations in national and international meetings are required. We are looking for a scientist with creativity, lateral thinking, and excellent communication skills. The candidate should have the ability to develop new directions in the assigned research projects. The successful candidate will join a large state-of-the-art vibrant lab that includes several postdoctoral fellows, research assistants, and students.
Salaries are highly competitive and commensurate with experience. Applicants with strong experience may be considered for a higher-level position.

Job Description:
Under minimal supervision, set up, conduct experiments, and continue research projects following protocols, including the appropriate recording of data and reporting of standard or variant results. Assist in other laboratory and research functions. This individual will work on a project that involves molecular biology studies and animal (mice) handling. Excellent organizational and communications skills (both verbal and written) are essential, as is attention to detail.

Basic Requirements:

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field and 48 months of related experience. Strong experience with PCR (real-time and conventional) and other basic molecular biology technology, sterile cell culture, and Western blotting are crucial. Experience is essential in animal handling and performing mice xenografts.

The successful candidate will have strong organizational, record-keeping, and problem-solving skills. The ability to work independently within a team is highly preferred. Skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are necessary.

Key Functions and Expected Performances:
• Preparation of buffers and reagents
• Independently running advanced-level molecular experiments and assays (examples: vitro tissue culture, Western blot, chromatin immunoprecipitations and their quantitation by PCR, high-throughput subcloning, validation, and sequencing of PCR products), flow cytometry; initially with some guidance or teaching but later with significant independence - and recording results completely, accurately, and promptly. Proper storage and maintenance of protein stocks
• Writing and updating laboratory protocols
• Ordering supplies
• Other tasks as directed by supervisor
Additional Information:

This is a full-time position; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Salary is dependent upon years of education and experience.

Experience may be substituted for education basic qualification requirement on a two for one basis (2 years of experience for each year of education required, but not attained).
