Assistant Professor of Instruction and Assistant Lab Coordinator – Engineering Technology (12-month appointment)

The Engineering Technology (ENGT) program at the Ohio University Lancaster campus invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Instruction position starting August 16, 2021. This position is funded for three years renewable yearly.

The ENGT program provides students experiential learning in our applied learning laboratories with facilities at Ohio University Lancaster and at the Fairfield Training Center and is well known for providing a balance of technical theory and applied hands-on experiential education. The program mission is to prepare students for entry into high demand advanced manufacturing positions such as automations technician, robotics technician, plant maintenance technician, machining technician, quality technician, electromechanical technician.

The Assistant Professor of Instruction and Assistant Lab Coordinator in ENGT will support development and provide delivery of ENGT program and courses, Industry 4.0 programing including but not limited to for-credit and non-credit Automation, Robotics, Electronics, and PLCs at the Fairfield County Workforce Center (FCWC) and Regional Higher Education (RHE). This position will assist OHIO Lancaster and the Russ College of Engineering and Technology to develop curricular offerings that equip students with marketable Industry 4.0 career skills in-demand fields/subjects and industry recognized credentials. Other duties include identification and procurement requests of lab materials, lab and equipment safety, planning and improvement of labs, equipment, and materials, lab setup, lab layout and minor machine maintenance. Provides demonstrations and assists with student recruitment and industry partnerships as needed.

This position will be asked to focus on delivering instruction on robotics, PLCs, micro-controllers at the FCWC. The person will be credentialed or willing to become credentialed to train and provided certified industrial credentials to students signed up for training at the FCWC. In addition to training for industry recognized credentials the successful applicant will also deliver various length training classes and full-term course work at the FCWC. In addition to the educational requirements noted, candidates should possess:
• Direct experience developing workforce credentials and curricula.
• Industry experience is preferred.
• Experience teaching online course content is preferred.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of internal and external partners.
• Excellent interpersonal, organization, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to build financial programing models
• Manage and promote safety at all times.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Engineering Technology, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a closely related field, and a minimum of one-year relevant industrial experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Engineering Technology, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a closely related field, and five or more years relevant industrial experience

Classes are typically scheduled between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. M-F (some Saturday work). The actual time (days and hours) at campus and the FCWC will be based on the courses to be offered for the semester. Typical teaching load includes five courses per semester which may include multiple lab sections. Course work will be balanced based on amount of training time at the FCWC which will occur each semester.
