About the Role:
We are looking for an innovative Scientist or Engineer with significant expertise in drug development and bioengineering to join our Bioinspired Therapeutics and Diagnostics team. Reporting to the Technology Translation Director and working closely with Founding Director and Core Faculty Member, Dr. Donald Ingber, you will perform highly interdisciplinary research that leverages microengineered Organ Chip technology and other in vitro culture models to discover new disease mechanisms, identify therapeutic targets, and develop novel drugs and biologic compounds. This role also involves managing a group of scientists and engineers of all levels (staff, post-doc, and technicians) and coordinating their efforts to achieve deliverables for sponsored research programs, as well as helping to drive future advances in Organ Chip technology and drug discovery. Job-Specific Responsibilities

What you'll do:

Direct sponsored research programs that design and develop therapeutics by leveraging microfluidic human Organ Chip in vitro experimentation technology
Lead, manage, and mentor junior team members with regards to their professional development as well as executing grant deliverables in a timely manner; Direct complex work flows on initiatives.
Supervise the implementation and execution of experiments at the bench using in vitro cell based assays, primary cell culture, iPS cells, organoids, cell based-microfluidic Organ chip assays, and molecular, biochemical and genetic analysis methods; advise, assist, and mentor with regards to engineering challenges.
Collaborate with bioinformaticians, engineers, chemists, and computational scientists across the Institute to meet program goals.
Collaborate with other project platform and business development teams to help identify and establish commercial opportunities, licensing structures and start up strategies within our therapeutics and diagnostics programs. Work with collaborating labs and CROs to generate multi-omic data from human Organ Chip experiments
Oversee and assist in the design and implementation of experimental protocols and procedures
Write reports and presentations; assist in the preparation and publications, patents, and grant applications, providing critical data, figures, and other technical information
Act as a major point of contact with grant sponsors
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others

Basic Qualifications

What you'll need:

Master’s degree in Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Cell Biology, Physiology, Cancer Biology, Pharmacology or related field required.
9 or more years of experience working in bioengineering, cell biology, physiology or related field. A PhD may count towards years of experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Desirable skills:

PhD in Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Cell Biology, Physiology, Cancer Biology, Pharmacology or related field strongly preferred
4 or more years of experience working in academia and/or industry in drug development and cell, tissue, or organ assays is strong preferred.
Experience with any of the following disease areas: cancer, lung disease, infectious diseases gastrointestinal, and female reproductive disorders would be helpful
Experience with drug development, cancer, stromal-epithelial interactions, blood brain barrier, microvascular cells as well as IPS-derived cells and organoid-based cultures would be helpful
Strong organizational and communication skills to assist and collaborate with a multidisciplinary group of technology innovators, engineers, biologist and clinicians
Demonstrated ability to tackle and lead multiple projects while simultaneously performing bench work as a member of an integrated team is essential
