Job Description
Position Summary:

The primary job duty of this position is to serve as a lead scientist supervising a research program studying how muscle undergoes changes at molecular level during aging, with disuse and disease, and in response to spaceflight. Managing a laboratory, maintenance of equipment, manuscript preparation, and assistance in grant development are all expected job duties. The qualified candidate is expected to independently set up and perform experiments, collect and analyze -omics data for human, rodent, and worm experiments, and must have experience with the NASA GeneLab platform.

Primary Responsibilities:

Plans and conducts assigned research projects within the laboratory while working with other Ohio University investigators, staff and students. Research will focus on identifying and countering the molecular changes that occur in muscle with age, disuse, disease, and spaceflight. Main techniques involved in the projects include: 1) Use of C. elegans, rodent, and human subjects for molecular research; 2) RNA isolation, RNAseq, and bioinformatic and network analysis; 3) Correlation of -omics measures with (patho)physiologic measures; 4) Western blotting; 5) RNAi, drug treatment, and in vivo imaging for C. elegans; 6) Systems engineering as it relates to spaceflight project management.

Manage the day-to-day aspects of a laboratory, which includes keeping outstanding laboratory experiment records, and tracking, ordering, and purchasing basic lab supplies and reagents.

Preparing manuscripts for publication, and assisting with the development of grant applications.

Mentoring medical, graduate and undergraduate students as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
-PhD Computational Biology/Physiology (ABD) applicants accepted
-Must be eligible to be badged to work at NASA facilities (i.e. you are not on the NASA lists of Denied Persons or Debarred Parties, specially designated nationals, and/or the terrorist database)
-Experience working with NASA GeneLab
