Defining critical determinants of prostate cancer progression
Our group at the Department of Cancer Biology at the Lerner Research Institute of the Cleveland Clinic is seeking a highly motivated and independent post-doctoral fellow to join our studies to overcome treatment resistance in prostate cancer.
Our laboratory focuses on the signal transduction that drives the growth of treatment-resistant prostate cancer. Via novel insights in the molecular mechanisms that are in control over prostate cancer growth, we strive to isolate novel therapeutic targets and develop alternative treatment approaches. Examples of research interests and recent studies from our NCI-funded research programs include: Wei et al. (European Urology, 2017), Liu et al. (eLife, 2017), Kumari et al. (Endocrine-Related Cancer, 2017), Venkadakrishnan et al. (Oncogene, 2019).
We have an opening for a candidate with specific interests in
1) Molecular dissection of signal transduction that controls prostate cancer cell division after growth stimulation
2) Testing and validating novel therapeutic approaches that target the action of kinases and developing relevant biomarkers of treatment response
All research projects in the Heemers laboratory involve clinical validation of laboratory findings using archival and fresh patient specimens and animal models of advanced prostate cancer for translational and therapeutic studies.
The ideal candidate is highly motived and driven to succeed in a translational science environment. The candidate should have a recent PhD and expertise in cell biology, molecular biology and preclinical animal studies, and is interested in extrapolating in vitro and in vivo findings to patient specimens and data. Outstanding verbal and communication skills are required. The Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute provides an excellent interactive research environment with access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
