Job Description

Job Summary
The primary mission of the University of Michigan Medical School Office of Research is to foster an environment of innovation and efficiency that serves the Medical School research community and supports biomedical science from insight to impact. To that end, our team is constantly striving to enhance the research enterprise, including maintaining an investigator-focused infrastructure, facilitating and diversifying investigators' avenues for funding, and streamlining research processes.

The UMMS Office of Research has numerous reporting units and programs such as the Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR), the Clinical Research Calendar Review & Analysis Office (CRAO), the Fast Forward Medical Innovation, the Biomedical Research Core Facilities (BRCF), the Institutional Review Board (IRB Med), and the Medical School Grant Services & Analysis Office. Together, these teams provide the necessary support to position our researchers for success.

The Medical School Grants Services & Analysis (GS&A) unit of the Office of Research handles review of all externally sponsored projects for Medical School faculty at the pre-award stage and works with units and project teams to address institutional, sponsor and federal requirements. GS&A is seeking an individual to serve as the primary Research Administrative Assistant for the Unit.

Daily activities include supporting GS&A customers – the research community – by triaging all communications and questions to the GS&A office, entering research proposal data into the MSGrants database for reporting, coordinating required approvals and authorizations within the Medical School and other units, preparing sponsored project submissions for review, compiling budget data, ensuring timely submissions of proposals to funding agencies, and coordinating meetings of the R01 Boot Camp. Additionally, this position will serve as the secondary support for Limited Submissions competitions.

Within these activities, a significant investment of time will be spent organizing the flow of work through the office and capturing the data about projects. Because the data entered is used for many of the school’s reporting tools, accuracy and attention to detail are incorporated as necessary. This position is also responsible for monitoring/correcting data exception reports and will have some time reserved for arising projects.
