Alabama A&M University (AAMU), an 1890 Land-Grant institution located in the high-tech center of Huntsville in northern Alabama, invites applications for the positions listed below. Situated in the northeast quadrant of the city of 200,000, the hillside campus is just four miles away from downtown Huntsville. AAMU offers its 6,100-student population a wide range of course offerings under the College of Agriculture, Life and Natural Sciences; College of Business and Public Affairs; College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences and College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Science. The School of Graduate Studies serves about 1,400 and offers doctoral degree programs in Applied Physics, Food Science, Plant/Soil Science and Reading/Literacy.


This position is in the Department of Teacher Education and Leadership within the College of Education, Humanities, and Behavioral Sciences. The position is a full-time (9-month) faculty position. The rank and tenure-status of the position is based on qualifications, experience, and recent research and scholarship

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaches graduate and undergraduate Early Childhood education courses, in both face-to-face and online environments
Recruits and advises students
Serves as a mentor to graduate and undergraduate students
Conducts an active research/publication agenda
Provides service to the university, community and profession
Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):

Doctorate in Early Childhood or related field, or anticipated earned Doctorate in Early Childhood or related field by December 2020.
At least three (3) years of teaching P-12 schools, including birth to 3rd grade.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of student advising procedures
Record of teaching at the university level
Experience supervising teacher candidates in the field
Evidence of scholarly productivity in the form of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations or a well-defined research agenda
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated skills of teaching interdisciplinary courses in blended and online environments
Ability to work collaboratively with university and public school colleagues within a diverse environment
Ability to contribute to academic program development, including accreditation processes


The salary for each position is based on the grade/tier in which the position is placed, and the salary within the grade/tier is based on the number of years of related experience or number of years in the hiring rank.
