Summary

The pediatric chief resident serves as a direct report to the pediatric program director.

Job Duties

Job duties include patient care, teaching, and administration. Those duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Patient Care - Admission/care of patients to the Texas Children's Hospital inpatient unit; Direct care of patients at the Harris County Hospital District Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Clinic in Pasadena.
  • Teaching - Supervision/teaching of medical students; Supervision/teaching of residents providing patient care at Texas Children's Hospital and the Harris County Hospital District hospitals and clinics; Scheduling and conducting teaching conferences; Orientation of residents to their rotations; Help in evaluating and providing feedback to residents and medical students. 
  • Administration - Serve as the primary liaison between residents and faculty members;  Creation and maintenance of resident yearly and daily schedules; Helping ensure all regulatory requirements (e.g. those of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) with respect to residents are met; Help address personnel issues involving residents (e.g. interpersonal conflicts, absence due to illness)
