Description of Work Unit
The School of Global Environmental Sustainability (SoGES) at Colorado State University, founded in 2008, is dedicated to scientific research, education, and engagement on issues of global environmental sustainability. The School’s mission is to:

Engage with the public and decision-makers in translating discoveries into useful information and practical solutions to pressing environmental problems.
Position Summary
Research and coordinate preparation of complex scientific research proposals to a wide variety of federal, state, industry, foundation, and other sponsors. Funding mechanisms include grants, contracts, task orders, and cooperative agreements. Investigate the availability of funding programs, research submission, and compliance requirements, and identify cost-share requirements. Consult with sponsor representatives in the U.S. or internationally as needed. Coordinate budgets including staffing plans and research expenses across multiple institutions for collaborative projects. Develop proposal budgets, budget justifications, collate CVs and current/pending documents, and facilitate other proposal-related documentation (e.g., facilities and equipment, data management plans, etc.) to ensure successful proposal submissions. Confer with Post Award Research Administrators in the Office of Sponsored Programs and/or College units and with the Business Officer in SoGES to identify areas of the proposed structure and justification that will facilitate post-award implementation if awarded. Serve as a unit expert on proposal opportunities, guidelines, and requirements. Coordinate annual and final reports as well as monthly budget statements as needed. Pre-approve all SoGES grant proposals. Analyze Department proposal activity and develop recommendations and strategies for research growth opportunities for faculty.

The position will add to the continued growth in SoGES focus on research by facilitating researchers writing collaborative, multidisciplinary competitive grant proposals for state and federal grant applications and foundations. This includes writing letters of inquiry; drafting and formatting collateral materials for applications including budgets, tracking and driving all components to completion; researching prospective funders; preparing progress reports; ensuring compliance with award requirements, and sharing strategies to improve program design. The Research Proposal Coordinator will keep an up-to-date calendar of the grant, report, and collateral submission deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of proposal preparation and grant experience.

Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, sciences, communications, accounting, or related field
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and Adobe Acrobat
Strong writing and editing skills as demonstrated by work experience
Experience working in research and/or academic environments; familiarity with scientific methods and principles
Effective written communication skills, and the ability to facilitate consensus among a diverse constituency
Experience preparing and submitting complex scientific research proposals through the University to state, federal, and non-governmental granting agencies
Ability to work on a team, as a leader and independently
Commitment to diversity; ability to work effectively with all constituencies in a diverse institution
Preferred Job Qualifications
Experience submitting proposals through
Experience creating budgets, budget justifications, monthly and annual reports
Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance cost accounting guidelines
Knowledge of Kuali Research Proposal system (KR)
Knowledge of proposal submission guidelines and portals for one or more of the following agencies: NSF, USDA, EPA, NASA, CDC, and NIH.
Experience working independently with scientists to provide accurate and timely information.
