Job Summary
The Director of Development serves as the chief development officer for the IU School of Informatics and Computing on the IUPUI campus. The position plans, directs, manages and implements the comprehensive fundraising and constituency program for the school and its academic programs and potential research centers. Responsible for increasing philanthropic support of school initiatives consisting of cash, pledges, planned gifts and in-kind contributions. Works closely with the Senior Executive Associate Dean and departmental advisory boards and provides supervision of a staff member whose portion of the job assists with development initiatives. Interacts frequently with the Indiana University Foundation staff on prospect management, events, gift administration, prospect research, account management and other areas, ensuring that all procedures and policies are followed in accordance with IUF and IRS guidelines and ensuring donor wishes are met.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and seven years of experience in nonprofit fundraising.

Track record of leadership success. Experience combining ability to provide strategic direction, program and project management direction, and daily management of fundraising, resulting in enhanced performance and proven ability to achieve objectives. Ability to develop relationships with leaders in a broad range of business and professional fields. Team-oriented leadership. Flexibility adapting to varied situations, ranging from direct supervision within span of control to influential, facilitative and coaching behavior where appropriate to positively influence broader groups and constituencies. Experience in establishing strategic direction for institutional development efforts, including the planning and successful implementation of capital campaigns, as well as an excellent track record in all aspects of development. Experience with cultivating relationships, soliciting and successfully closing and stewarding portfolios of major gifts. Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with fundraising for a technical or scientific discipline. Experience with IU Foundation and IU Alumni Association. Experience with a prospect management system. Experience with IU's proprietary prospect management system.

Working Conditions / Demands
Position requires: long periods of mental concentration, understanding, interacting, communicating, attendance, and repetitive motions at a computer keyboard. Ability to remain at and operate a computer for extended periods of time. Ability to travel.
