Immunology and Sex Steroids
Do you have a background in immunology and are interested in translational medicine? If so, a postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nima Sharifi at the Cleveland Clinic.
We recently discovered the genetic basis for sex steroid metabolism that regulates distinct clinical immune and inflammatory response in humans (Zein, et al. PNAS. 2020; 117(4) 2187-2193). The steroid metabolism consequences on androgen synthesis is something our group has worked out in great detail (Chang, et al. Cell. 2013;154:1074-84; Hearn, et al. Lancet Oncol. 2016;17:1435-44; JAMA Oncol. 2018;4:558-62). We have discovered steroid metabolism drivers that dictate a general mechanism of human physiology that impinges on multiple pathophysiologic disease processes.
We are searching for an incisive and highly driven postdoctoral fellow in immunology to dissect the mechanisms by which specific downstream sex steroids (i.e., androgens and estrogens) conduct the immune response.
The fellow will be embedded in a unique and multidisciplinary environment with exposure to tumor metabolism, molecular oncology, endocrine physiology, drug development and clinical trials. Further details are available at: http://www.lerner.ccf.org/cancerbio/sharifi/
