Job Description

Essential Functions (Job Duties)The Wayne State University Law School seeks an Academic Advisor I/II to join its dedicated team of professionals. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive career services to Wayne Law students and alumni, with a particular emphasis on post-graduate judicial clerkships and other career opportunities in the public sector. The Academic Advisor I/II will develop and implement strategies for employer outreach, and assist in collecting statistical data on student and graduate employment outcomes. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Career and Professional Development.

Essential Functions:
Counsel and advise students through every phase of the career exploration and job search process, with a particular emphasis on post-graduate judicial clerkships and public service employment opportunities.

Review and provide feedback on student and alumni employment application materials, including cover letters and resumes.

Conduct mock interviews with students and alumni and provide feedback and suggestions for enhancing interview performance.

Handle student walk-ins, telephone inquiries and email requests from students, alumni and employers.

Maintain contact with Wayne Law student organizations to enhance students' knowledge of career planning, job search strategies and employment opportunities.

Develop and deliver educational programming for students on job search strategies and resources.

Draft informational guides on a variety of career-related topics for use by students and alumni, especially those related to post-graduate judicial clerkships and public service opportunities.

Develop and coordinate job opportunities for students and alumni.

Plan and execute annual Public Service Career Fair for Wayne Law students.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with legal employers, the judicial community and relevant bar associations.

Develop and implement strategies that encourage employers to hire students and alumni.

Assist with the administration of fall and spring on-campus interview programs as requested.

Remain abreast of local and national employment trends and avenues for enhancing job search success, particularly as they relate to post-graduate judicial clerkships and public service legal employment.

Assist in collecting and maintaining statistical data on student and graduate employment outcomes.

Represent the Office of Career and Professional Development at internal and external programs and events, including open house events sponsored by Wayne Law's Office of Admission.

Speak at law school events, including career orientation for first-year students.

Work cooperatively with law school faculty and staff to enhance career opportunities for students and alumni.
