Job Description

Summary of Position
Join the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) mission as part of the IMAP-Lo engineering team. Design mass efficient structures and electronic packaging for extreme environment situations. Supervise and coordinate fabrication of hardware. Develop and supervise environmental screening tests, development tests, and experiments. Produce high quality engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, test plans, procedures, and reports. Perform structural and thermal analyses of flight hardware. Oversee and assist with assembly, integration, and testing efforts. Support various design reviews throughout product life cycle, including defending design and analytical work to customer, third party, and non-advocate reviewers. Field support may require travel to customer’s facilities, NASA field centers, military bases, and overseas. The position operates under the general supervision and direction of the Space Science Center Senior Mechanical Engineer.

Other minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field of Engineering or Physics or a closely related field scientific or technical field and five years’ related experience.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
 BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with at least 3 – 5 years of related experience.
 Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software (2-3 years or CSWP) and strong detail drawing experience using ASME Y14.5 and GD&T
 Experience using standard office productivity software.
 Ability to productively interface with team members, suppliers and clients.
 Experience with structural analysis, thermal analysis, environmental testing methodology, mechanism design, material selection and characterization, electromechanical design, and/or space mission concept design is preferred.
 Previous experience presenting designs and analysis to review panels is a plus.
