Assistant Professor of Communication with specialization in relational communication and quantitative methods

Primarily responsible for instruction in, and continued development of, relational communication and quantitative research methods at the undergraduate level with potential for future graduate level courses. Candidates should be experts in some aspect of relational or intergroup communication and have solid experience in teaching quantitative methods using survey and experiment or content analysis. Priority will be given to applicants with secondary familiarity in qualitative methods. A strong understanding and commitment to the broader components of the Communication field is also desired to allow for instruction in general courses within the department, such as lower division intro courses, as well as mentoring of and academic advising of students in the undergraduate major.

In addition to teaching, the duties of this position consist of significant service to the department and program, including student advising in the undergraduate Communication Major, curricular and program development in the area of relational communication, and possible future graduate level (Masters) curricular and program development.

Saint Mary's faculty are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda and demonstrate intellectual growth and significant achievement appropriate to their field. Faculty also contribute to the mission and serve the College and community in many ways, including academic advising, student and community outreach, participation in departmental and College-wide committees, and the development and assessment of the College's Core Curriculum. Faculty are also encouraged to teach in the College's Core Curriculum, January Term, and Collegiate Seminar programs.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Communication or related field with evidenced teaching experience and scholarship. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to a mixed-methods approach that combines both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. As an additional area, familiarity working in/with marginalized populations is preferred.
