Job Description

The Southeast Missouri State University Department of History and Anthropology seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in Latin American History, area and period of specialization open. In addition to courses in Latin American History, the applicant must be able to teach freshman/sophomore level general education courses in one or both halves of the US history survey course. The applicant must also be able to serve as the coordinator of a minor in Latin American Studies. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, engage in research, and perform departmental, college and university service.

Primary Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of History and Anthropology
Coordinate minor in Latin American Studies
Conduct research in area(s) of expertise
Participate in professional, university, and departmental service

Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. or ABD (with Ph.D. by August 2019) in Latin American History (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university).
Demonstrated training or experience to teach upper-level courses in Latin American History, including: Latin American Colonial History and History of Mexico
Demonstrated ability to deliver highly effective teaching including use of educational technology in both face-to-face and online courses
Demonstrated training, experience, or other qualifications to teach introductory service courses in U.S. History
Demonstrated ability to deliver highly effective teaching including use of educational technology in both face-to-face and online courses
Demonstrated scholarly promise in relevant fields
Additional areas of teaching expertise to complement departmental strengths
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
