Position Description:
The Dean is the academic and administrative leader for the division which includes the areas of Mathematics, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences. This position is responsible for the development, delivery and outcome of programs, while encouraging and providing innovation and collaboration with faculty and other college departments. Major responsibilities include the oversight of daily operations and supervision of personnel, facilities, and budgets in assigned instructional areas. Day-to-day professional activities are to align with meeting performance standards in all of the division’s areas, with a special focus on maintaining high student success levels.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership in the development, evaluation and revision of academic programs including the following: researching, identifying, and implementing new programs and courses in collaboration with faculty and staff, and reviewing programs to ensure they are current, effective, producing successful graduates, and aligned with the mission of the college and the needs of students.
• Schedule and manage course offerings to meet student needs and allow students to achieve their academic goals in a timely fashion.
• Integrate program and course offerings with workforce development as appropriate;
• Lead and encourage innovation in the development of divisional objectives, initiatives, and instructional methods and formats. Lead and encourage continuous divisional quality improvement across all delivery modes.
• Ensure the effective use of technology in learning, teaching and administrative matters;
• Provide leadership in developing and implementing student success and retention initiatives. Develop and support the division’s enrollment goals and be accountable for achieving them.
• Seek out, implement, and maintain articulation agreements with four-year colleges and K-12 schools in consultation with the Vice President for Instruction and the Vice President of Student & Academic Service.
• Review and approve department budgets based on pre-determined mutually acceptable and institutionally aligned strategic and operational goals and articulate these during the budget process. Adhere to college purchasing and accounting processes. Align and prioritize division resources with the strategic objectives of the college.
• Build and maintain partnerships among faculty, staff, administration, and the community, including business, industry, four-year colleges and universities, and K-12 schools;
• Research and recommend appropriate grants to support program development, equipment, space, etc.
• Recruit, select, evaluate, and develop faculty (full-time, part-time, department chairs) and staff in support of division mission and goals.
• Assist in the creation and support of college policies/procedures; advise the Vice President for Instruction regarding any divisional concerns about college policies and procedure.
• Participate in administrative meetings, retreats, activities, events, and planning as appropriate. Participate in appropriate committees, task forces, or other groups to advance college goals. Communicate college news and information to departments in a timely and effective manner.
• Ensure that active and qualified advisory boards exist to assess programs to determine community needs.
• Validate transfer criteria of course and program offerings to other colleges and universities.
• Promote, provide, and support faculty and staff professional development as it aligns with the divisional and strategic plan.
• Ensure compliance with state, regional, and specialized accreditation standards;
• Following college policies and procedures, conduct disciplinary investigations of student and faculty misconduct and take appropriate action.
• Conduct research, gather, and interpret data and prepare reports for the division in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Research.
• Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Master’s degree required, PhD or EdD preferred.
• College teaching experience and academic administrative or management experience.
• A high-level of professionalism, innovation, collaboration, and institutional commitment in all actions.
• Analytical/administrative abilities sufficient to develop and administer budgets for division cost centers and major grants.
• Interpersonal skills sufficient for effective frequent contact with faculty, staff, students, and community / industry representatives.
• Management abilities sufficient to be successful with the administrative duties associated with a large diverse curricula.
• Ability to provide rapid response: Disseminate information, complete and submit materials, return phone calls and emails in a timely manner to both internal colleagues and external constituents.
