Job Description

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Boston College invites applications for the position of Assistant Coordinator of Language Instruction with the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of the Practice in Hispanic Studies. This is a one-year appointment, beginning July 1, 2019, with the possibility of becoming a 3-year, renewable appointment contingent upon administration approval and job performance.
The Assistant Coordinator works with the Coordinator of Language Instruction of the 1st- and 2nd-year Spanish courses to develop and administer a large, multi-section language program. Responsibilities include teaching 4 courses per academic year, conducting pre-service and in-service workshops, performing class observations, addressing student concerns, and test development.
The applicant would preferably have a Ph.D. (in Second Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics, Foreign Language Education, or related field) or commensurate experience in language coordination at the college level. Also required is native or near-native ability in both Spanish and English; experience in language course supervision and curriculum development; evidence of excellence in teaching; familiarity with computer-assisted instruction; and the ability to train instructors in language-teaching methodology.
