Job Description

The Landscape Specialist reports to the Landscape Project Manager and at their direction is responsible for the oversight of both new landscape construction and renovations at all College sites. This position will assist the Manager in keeping current on the projects, review of construction documents to check for accuracy and quality levels during the job, attend the construction meetings with the Manager to keep current on any changes in the project, or issues that apply to landscaping and provide follow-up on vendor warranty expiration. The position will also keep current on landscape maintenance, ensuring that the campuses are maintained to the established standards of the college. The Landscape Specialist will support the Project Manager in all ongoing and special projects. Oversight will include items such as: maintenance of tree inventory reports, trimming and pruning schedules, verifying that the correct fertilization techniques and formulas are applied, and conduct research for remedies for various issues around the campuses.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Ornamental Horticulture or Equivalent work experience in a related field (Landscape Management, Maintenance, Project Manager, or Landscape Architecture)

• 2 years of experience in Comparable Professional and/or Related Managerial or Supervisor position

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in supervising a landscaping staff

• Ability to make written and oral presentations

• Knowledge and experience with landscape maintenance and projects

• Basic knowledge of construction, planning, budgeting and scheduling of projects

• Basic knowledge of contracts, purchasing and bidding projects

• Computer knowledge must include software commonly used in the landscape industry

• Familiarity with OSHA requirements as they relate to landscape projects

• Experience working with a diverse/multicultural student body and / or workforce

Physical Demands

• Exerting up to 30# of force occasionally and/or negligible amount frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Ability to withstand variable weather conditions during assignments. Summer heat in excess of 100 degrees and winter cold to less than 40 degrees. Both seasons can include wind speeds in excess of 30 MPH. It entails desk work as well as frequent walking. The employee will be walking job sites and while at the job site may be standing and/or walking for long periods of time. Additional demands may include heavy lifting and moving of materials or equipment.

This position will be subject to notification of and possible requirements to be present due to various catastrophic occurrences, as deemed necessary by the authority on site. The incumbent may be called out to the site of an irrigation leak, a felled tree that endangers life or endangers the college or its community. This position must be readily accessible at all times and maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
