Job Description
The Office of Residence Life is seeking to hire an Assistant Residence Director.
The full-time Assistant Residence Director (ARD) assists in the management of the hall to which he/she is assigned and reports to the Residence Director. The responsibilities include educational, managerial and administrative functions in an effort to provide and environment supportive of the University’s five core values of Quality, Caring, Diversity, Service, and Innovation. The full-time ARD is responsible for maintaining close working relationships with a variety of offices and departments of the University. The full-time ARD will also serve as the primary contact in the absence of the Residence Director.

• A Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
• Reasonable experience in college residence/student services is necessary.

Job Specific Qualifications
• Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong ability to handle multiple priorities and work across many different constituencies.
• Knowledge of student organization advising and conflict resolution skills.
• The Assistant Residence Director should support the development of an inclusive residence hall community and demonstrates cultural competency in race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, ability, gender, gender identity expression, sexual orientation, religion or national origin.

Completion of administrative tasks and main desk operations as necessary. This includes completion of payroll for Main Desk Assistants, ordering keys for residence hall rooms and mailboxes, coordinating residence hall opening and closing, and coordinating student housing changes within the residence hall.
Supervises a student staff of approximately 12-20 Main Desk Assistants who work at the main desk of the residence hall. Assist the Residence Director in supervision, training, and on-going training in staff meetings of Resident Advisor staff members.
Advising residence hall Community Council and all other student groups as assigned. Participate in RHA required events through Community Council.
Mediation and Student Support:
Mediates student conflict through the facilitation of roommate agreements and roommate mediation meetings. Connects with students around a variety of issues and concerns and follows up as necessary.
Crisis Response and Student Conduct:
Communicates student’s rights and responsibilities and assists in adjudicating departmental and university code of conduct violations. Provides staff coverage, including emergency duty, during the course of the year including hall openings, closing, and university vacation days. Handles emergency situations utilizing crisis intervention skills and resources. Serves in an on-call rotation with other Senior Staff in their designated area encompassing approximately 1,800-2,500 students.
Professional Development:
Takes an active interest in identifying and participating in his/her own professional development. Adheres to the Association of College and University Officers-International (ACUHO-I), National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and America College Personnel Administrators (ACPA) ethical standards. Serves on University, Divisional, and Departmental Committees as requested. Exhibits the ability to engage in in-depth self-reflection and apply what he/she has learned to their professional and personal lives. Presents workshops and training sessions to staff and students.
Departmental Initiatives:
Serves as a member or co-chair on departmental committees and will be assigned to work with one of three summer academic programs and/or summer school housing (SSUI, Summer College, or Summer Start). Additionally, the Assistant Residence Director will perform other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Central Office Directors and Coordinators.
