Job Description
Job Duties:
Manage day-to-day office operations, departmental budget, and pre-award staff
Manage and oversee the Cayuse Research Suite (SP/Sponsored Programs and Proposals/424) or other related software/platforms to ensure completeness and accuracy to prepare quarterly, annual, and ad hoc sponsored program reports
Oversee, supervise, and as needed review and approve, proposal submissions and related records for completion, compliance with federal/state/sponsor guidelines, budget accuracy, appropriate approvals, etc.
Direct, support, and as needed author, the creation and implementation of departmental policies and procedures in coordination with Assistant Vice President for Research to streamline efficiencies
Assist with complex faculty and sponsor inquiries and proposal submissions
Support a process of continuous improvement on the grant submission process
Work collaboratively with other university departments on policies and procedures that impact sponsored programs
Work collaboratively with University offices, such as Information Resources and Technology, to develop custom reporting needs as well as process improvements
Assess the needs for, and coordinate and conduct university research-related workshops and training opportunities
Work collaboratively with Director of Grants and Contracts, and other related University units, to develop processes and procedures to ensure that awards, no cost extensions, and other items are communicated accurately and effectively between staff in both departments
Assist post-award and research teams with financial/programmatic audits as they arise
Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years at a R1 in a pre-award office or 5 years at a non-central administration grants office managing award submissions.
Minimum Bachelor's degree and 3 years (additional to above) of working in a higher education research setting at a R1 or R2 institution, or similarly research productive environment.
Minimum 3 years of experience managing and supervising a team of research administrators.
Knowledge of and ability to correctly interpret regulations in grant submission and management, and do so in a way with minimal administrative burden
Demonstrated responsibility at research in a university, medical school, or hospital with extensive interface with administrators, faculty, regulatory agencies, and sponsors
Ability to develop and conduct effective education and training programs
Effective interfacing with other research teams (e.g., research development, compliance, commercialization, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to use office technology, including for data and process analysis
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional certifications supporting pre- and post-award
Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment
Demonstrated knowledge of how to facilitate superior performance in a unionized environment
Ability to work effectively, diplomatically and in a professional manner; as well as the ability to develop strong relationships and trust with faculty and staff, College Deans, Department Chairs, center directors College administrative staff, and other research supporting units
