What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Manager, Technical Operations to join our team.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Develop, coach, mentor and lead diverse teams in challenging environments.
  • Partner with organizations throughout the Laboratories to understand the mission needs and provide expertise to enable mission success regarding ES&H functions; problem solve and mitigate issues/risks.
  • Ensure day-to-day operations of the ES&H Center are in alignment with the mission objectives and are compliant, efficient, and effective.
  • Develop, implement, and sustain a comprehensive management system across the Center, to include policies, processes, procedures, training, and performance assurance (i.e., issues management, event management, risk management, management assessments, etc.).
  • Work closely with other management system owners across Sandia to ensure a consistent, integrated, and interdependent approach to support an effective overall Labs Management System (LMS).
  • Develop and implement ES&H strategic solutions that will support management’s efforts of delivering with excellence to continuously improve safety culture, organizational performance, talent development, inclusion and diversity, and mission execution.
  • Integrate and collaborate with ES&H Managers, matrixed Business Partners, and other key stakeholders; and provide support to the Center in alignment with the vision, mission, and strategic objectives necessary to meet current and future mission needs and growth.
  • Facilitate resolution of operational issues through Sandia’s Issues Management process, including fact findings, causal analysis, extent of condition reviews, corrective action
  • development, effectiveness reviews, and development of lessons learned, as appropriate.
  • Manage a transparent and strong relationship with the Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration Sandia Field Office, and other government agencies and regulators, and the NTESS Board of Managers.
  • Advise management on government legislation, Department of Energy (DOE) contractual compliance requirements, and SNL’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that issues, concerns, and deficiencies are corrected in a timely and effective manner.

Salary Range:

$127,900 - $217,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in ES&H, engineering, science, quality management, business administration/economics, or other relevant discipline, plus (8) or more years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience/relevant knowledge, in any of the following areas: familiarity with ES&H, leading and managing teams, executing and/or managing policies, plans/manuals, processes, procedures, training, management systems, requirements/obligations, performance assurance (i.e., issues management, event management, risk management, management assessments, performance indicators), strategic planning, and/or project planning.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master’s degree in ES&H, engineering, science, quality management, business administration/economics, or other relevant discipline.
  • ES&H professional certifications (ASP, CSP, CSM, CIH, CHP, CEP, CEM, etc.)
  • Demonstrated project management knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Project Management Professional certification.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and/or implementing a comprehensive management system (i.e., policies, plans/manuals, procedures, training, performance assurance, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience developing strategic objectives and goals and leading change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional results.
  • Knowledge of the Laboratory’s mission, programs, capabilities, and unique hazards or like experience at other national laboratories or organizations.
  • Proven ability in establishing trust-based and effective relationships with staff, stakeholders, regulatory oversight, and all levels of leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience interfacing and collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders to include Labs and federal leadership, and local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Demonstrated effective oral, analytical, written, and communications skills through practical experience providing presentations or briefings to senior/executive-level management or other relevant public speaking experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading high visibility projects or initiatives
