What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a R&D Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team. Our work spans across a variety of applications, so we are looking for someone with a range of technical skills. We need your assistance in researching and developing innovative concepts and new technologies to meet challenging and diverse national security needs spanning across the physical security spectrum. On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Research and develop test advanced and innovative custom circuit boards/assemblies/modules, embedded systems, microcontroller firmware, field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), hardware and software for communications, signal processing, sensor fusion, and data analytics.
- Design, conduct and document tests, experiments, and results to evaluate electrical system performance.
- Perform engineering roles, including system architecture and requirements development, project scope and planning activities, and coordination with multiple technical development teams.
- Evaluate commercial technologies to determine their ability to meet sponsor performance requirements.
- Present at technical design reviews and interact regularly with internal/external partners from a variety of technical and professional areas.
This position may require occasional travel.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$95,400 - $185,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate\'s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science. A higher-level degree (MS, PhD) in relevant discipline may also be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
- Experienced in hardware and software integration.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance. The position will likely require higher-level clearance, which may require a polygraph test
Qualifications We Desire:
- Experienced in the following:
- Utilize tools or programs: C/C++, SPICE, LTSpice, MATLAB, LabVIEW, ModelSim, HDL, Mentor Graphics or other ECAD software, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum analyzers.
- Design of circuits or assemblies, employing or programming of microcontrollers or FPGAs.
- Design of power distribution systems
- Systems engineering, including requirements development and tracing.
- Modern software engineering design/development/testing/qualification
- Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) effects on electronics, design for performance in EMR environments, and perform testing in such environments.
- A breadth of technical knowledge and the ability to be resourceful when solving deeply complex technical problems.
- Proven ability to work within a multi-disciplinary, teaming environment.
- Effective communication and interaction with multiple levels of personnel in the Nuclear Security Enterprise and across multiple technical disciplines.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Active DOE Q-level or DOD TS security clearance.

The PSSE-Special Projects organization supports a diverse set of scientific and engineering communities to explore and develop innovative concepts/enabling technologies in order to meet emerging and future security needs. Our customers rely on us to provide anticipatory and creative solutions spanning across mechanical, electrical and software domains of expertise. Our breath of capabilities enables us to rapidly respond to requests for high assurance communication systems, execution of unique performance tests, conducting assessments/red teaming, reverse engineering, and develop/fly/test UAS.
