What Your Job Will Be Like:

If so, you could be that highly motivated Facilities Engineering Project Manager we are seeking to help us create solutions for national security!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Using strong engineering and architectural expertise as well as relevant technical knowledge in design/construction and project management to successfully complete facility and infrastructure projects. This includes those medium sized projects that can be both simple and complex, but all of which will require high-rigor management.
  • Lead the project team of internal or external engineering and architectural personnel: construction contractors, customers, sponsors, and suppliers, to ensure that the project meets scope, schedule, and cost requirements per DOE Orders and Sandia’s requirements.
  • Contribute to value engineering proposals to reduce cost of projects.
  • Work closely with project controls staff to ensure that the project progresses as planned and identifies and addresses both technical and non-technical risks, opportunities, and other issues that impact the project during the project execution phase.
  • Actively participate in making technical contributions to the project through capturing and developing the customer’s technical requirements, properly communicating the design solutions to those requirements, and providing design assurance and constructability reviews.
  • Make technical and programmatic decisions regarding the direction of a project and be held accountable for the results of those decisions.

  • This position has no direct reports.
  • Successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification within two years of employment.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$95,400 - $185,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture plus five (5) years of experience in Project Management; or equivalent combination of relevant education and relevant experience.
  • Experience with standard project management practices including one or more of the following:
  • Project plan development
  • Integration management
  • Scope management
  • Scheduling management
  • Cost estimation and management
  • Communications planning and management
  • Risk and opportunity management
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Knowledge and background in one or more engineering fields, such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture or related technical field.
  • Knowledge of Building Codes.
  • Ability to manage technical projects.
  • Proficiency in tools and applications commonly employed in project management activities.
  • Knowledge of management practices, assurance processes, business operations, fiscal and scheduling systems, and acquisition standards.
  • Teaming skills, including the ability to work effectively with other organizations, project sponsors and customers, and suppliers.
  • Organizational skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize and complete tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to operate with a high-level of autonomy.

About Our Team:

Department 4833, Facilities Project Management, provides project management services for buildings and infrastructure to support current and future mission needs at Sandia National Labs. Department 4833 implements projects from initiation, design, construction, and close-out and these projects range in scale, from $50k up to $34M in total project cost. They include facility modifications, infrastructure projects, new facilities, and use various methods of project delivery such as design-bid-build and design-build.
