The Associate Director for DEI/Assessment, Research, and Special projects will assist the Vice President and members of the DEI leadership team with strategic and operational projects, organizational effectiveness, assessing campus culture, and delivering effective strategic communications internal and external to OU.  This position entails project management, research and reporting, leadership, and support in designing and delivering initiatives that advance DEI strategies, the university, and DEI division strategic plans.

This role will report directly to the Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer and his/her/their designee. 

  • Responsible for representing the University of Oklahoma and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in various settings involving internal and external constituents: students, faculty, staff, government partners, primary and secondary schools, relevant community, and state agencies.
  • Performs research and benchmarking; uses data, insights, and industry trends to lead, influence, support, and facilitate organizational change by using best practices, research and evolving trends, and local/geographic nuances, and translates that knowledge into processes, procedures, and programs. 
  • Supports the development and implementation of university-wide culture and engagement strategies, initiatives, and tactics--ensuring objectives and activities are aligned across OU with alignment for faculty, staff, students, and alumni. 
  • Work with DEI team members and key stakeholders to build sustainable practices for understanding, monitoring, and reporting out on key metrics and measurements to evaluate the progress and effectiveness of OU and DEI strategic plans. 
  • Works closely with the VP and team leads to design and support the dissemination of ideas, concepts, innovations, and other information necessary for achieving OU’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. 
  • Provides advice and support to cross-functional teams to ensure that activities are coordinated as far in advance as possible to ensure clear, concise communication for various audiences. 
  • Plans, manages, and executes complex and challenging projects, including determining project goals and scope, identifying and securing resources, project implementation, communication, and follow-up. 
  • Collaborate with other DEI team members as needed. 
  • Serve on OU committees and boards, as assigned by the Vice President or designee.  (e.g., Search committees, Task Force groups, etc.). 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Master's degree, AND: 

  • 24 months related experience

Equivalency/Substitution:  Will accept 72 months experience in lieu of the master's degree for a total of 96 months related experience.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience of active engagement with advocacy-based and grassroots organizations that serve Higher Education communities or an associated field
  • Knowledge of operating within a university culture and setting
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, Microsoft Office, Canvas, and other related software programs/modalities
  • Strong process improvement skills/experience 
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative and respectful manner
  • Ability to multi-task, deal with complexity on a frequent basis
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to complete projects on time
  • Work in a fast-paced environment

Supervision: Fulltime FTE, graduate assistants, and some student employees
