We are looking for a Research Technician to join the team. This position provides assistance to research staff and the principal investigator by conducting research experiments, collecting data and samples, keeping records, conducting literature searches, analyzing data, and preparing reports. 

Duties:

  • Data Collection.  Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects. 
  • Record Keeping.  Keeps detailed logs of all research-related activities.
  • Literature Research.  Conducts research of the literature. 
  • Technical Research.  Conducts technical research and assists in various aspects of research. 
  • Data Analysis.  Conducts data analysis, interprets results, summarizes findings, and presents and discusses results with principal investigator. 
  • Report Preparation.  Prepares reports concerning the progress of the project, maintains compliance/lab safety records and submits radioactivity use reports. 
  • Administrative Assistance.  Provides administrative assistance by answering phones, running miscellaneous errands, ordering supplies, preparing SURs, etc. 
  • Equipment Maintenance.  Maintains a variety of laboratory equipment.  Washes and sterilizes glassware, and other equipment.  May use acid or autoclave equipment.  Prepares and sets up equipment, and ensures cleanliness of laboratory.   
  • As Needed.  Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
 

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelors Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, or other health related field.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months equivalent experience in lieu of the Bachelors Degree.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and regulations
  • Proficient with computers including data software and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word)
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to be detail oriented
  • Ability to collect and analyze data

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Standing for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity. Reaching, bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Environmental: Laboratory Environment. Exposure to chemicals, biohazardous materials, carcinogens, or other hazardous materials. 

Preferences:

  • Applicants with laboratory research experience in biochemical and molecular assays (such as RIA, receptor binding, qPCR and immunoblotting), experience in animal behavioral assays, animal surgery, and sterile tissue culture are preferred.
  • Proficient computer use, including Microsoft Office Suite (outlook, word, excel and PowerPoint) and data software.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing, and to work well with others.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to collect data from rats and rat tissue and analyze data.
