Card System Engineer/System Analyst, is responsible for helping to drive the implementation of the next generation of transaction services at the University of Oklahoma.  They are also accountable for the installation, configuration and maintenance of the university’s Blackboard Transact Microsoft Windows systems and related infrastructure for purposes of access control, privilege verification, and point-of-sale activities.  Additionally, the Card System Engineer helps to determine, through research and experimentation, the strategic direction of the card system and related technologies for the purposes of providing a more positive experience for university students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders. 

 

 

 

 Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Designing and implementing plans for new services and system expansion
  • Installing and configuring hardware, peripherals, services, settings, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
  • Developing and maintaining installation and configuration procedures
  • Maintaining system standards
  • Researching and implementing systems administration solutions that take advantage of automation and make operations more efficient
  • Identifying customer needs for equipment in new and pre-existing installations
  • Performing daily system monitoring for availability and the completion of scheduled tasks such as backups
  • Performing system security monitoring
  • Troubleshooting and resolving adverse behavior of card system devices
  • Creating, changing, and deleting user accounts per request
  • Performing preventative and proactive maintenance and performance tuning on card system and related infrastructure
  • Managing the hardware and software systems lifecycle
  • Providing Tier III support per request from various constituencies, investigating and troubleshooting issues
  • Providing service to walk-up card office customers, as necessary
  • Coordinating with OU Information Technology and 3rd party support for the installation and upgrading of the card system and related infrastructure, as necessary
  • Performing administrator on-call duties, as necessary

 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND: 

  • 12 months experience as a System Analyst or in a similar position.

Skills

  • Proficiency with Windows server and client operating systems and applications
  • Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair and service information technology equipment  
  • Ability to comprehend and follow English-language written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with peers and customers
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to accomplish tasks with minimal supervision

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions including movements of the hands, wrists, or fingers
  • Ability to speak including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others
  • Ability to hear including perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make discriminations in sound
  • Ability to see including unique visual requirements above and beyond the standard ability to see with or without corrective eyewear such as color vision, depth perception, etc.
  • Ability to lift objects less than 25 pounds. 

Department Preferences:

  • Previous professional experience with electronic access control, security or campus identification card systems
  • Previous professional experience in higher education
