We are currently building world-class institutes for the treatment of diabetes and cancer. We are looking for a Lead Dental Surgical Assistant to join the Surgical Sciences team! This position serves as a lead dental surgical assistant and unit leader: developing staff schedules, training new staff, and monitoring staff performance during surgical procedures.

Duties:

  • Provides surgical assistance to faculty, residents, and dental students and supervises other dental staff
  • Assists surgeon with the placement of implants during surgical procedures
  • Prepares patients for procedures with proper monitors for sedation
  • Reads and notates monitor readings from the procedure
  • Prepares surgical trays with instrumentation for basic extractions, IV extractions, biopsies, and implants
  • Also prepares trays with needed materials such as anesthesia, implants, bonding agents, bone grafting, and collagen membrane
  • Sterilizes instruments
  • Prepares surgical rooms for the proper procedures
  • Performs a wide range of tasks such as providing patient care, preparing and sterilizing instrumentation, taking x-rays, maintaining records, consent forms, and other documentation, and performing basic administrative office procedures
  • Maintains awareness of emergency situations and responds according to departmental policy
  • Recovers patients from sedations, and cleans/sanitizes rooms after patient treatment
  • Continues dental surgical education by attending training sessions to learn concepts of sterile procedures, sterilization, radiology, dental record keeping, fire and safety procedures

Job Requirements

Education: High School Diploma / GED

Experience: 36 months experience in Oral Surgery

Certifications:

  • Radiology Certification
  • Nitrous Oxide Certification
  • Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification (DAANCE)
  • Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Skills:

  • Able to keep hand and arm steady while moving arm or while holding arm and hand in one position
  • Able to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble very small objects
  • Able to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions
  • Able to bend, stretch, twist and/or reach with your body, arms and/or legs
  • Must possess good multi-limb coordination i.e. the ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting or standing
  • Must possess good trunk strength i.e. the ability to use abdominal or lower back muscles to support part of the body continuously or repeatedly over time
  • without giving out or fatiguing
  • Able to shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information
  • Good manual dexterity required to enable safe, skillful use of instruments while working in the mouth
