OU Athletics Marketing is seeking a driven and creative individual to advance the mission and values of the OU Athletics Department by overseeing the marketing efforts of Volleyball, Wrestling, Men's & Women's Tennis and other sport(s) as assigned. Additionally, the individual in this position will assist with the Marketing Internship Program & Gameday Marketing Staff as well as assist Director of Fan Engagement & Community Relations with the development of the Sooner Jr. Kids Club events and its marketing efforts.

Essential Functions: 
Marketing and Game Presentation:

  • Develop and implement marketing, promotions, and game production plans to increase ticket sales, game attendance and fan experience elements for the following sports:
    • Volleyball, Wrestling, Men’s & Women’s Tennis and other sport(s) as assigned.
  • Intern/GA oversight for other sport(s) as assigned based on departmental staffing needs.
  • Coordination of collateral production for designated sports with Athletics Graphic Design as a part of each programs marketing and promotions plan.
  • Assist the Associate Athletics Director and whole marketing staff with the planning, coordination and implementation of all football game day activities and promotions including but not limited to:
    • Team Arrival (Walk of Champions)
    • FanFest tailgate area (Party at the Palace)
    • Public Address
    • SoonerVision
    • In-game promotions and giveaways
    • In-venue presentations sponsored by the University and/or the Athletics Department
    • Marching Band performances
    • Spirit – Cheerleaders, Pom Squad and Mascots
    • All other game day related activities
  • Oversee game entertainment for Volleyball, Wrestling, & Men’s & Women’s Tennis bringing new and fresh elements to customer relations and the in-game fan experience.

Student Section (Boom Squad):

  • Lead Student Section Leaders and Initiatives to help drive Student attendance at all OU Athletics Events.
  • Strategize and develop giveaway plan to maximize budget while creating a visual impact on the game atmosphere.
  • Work with student groups on campus to promote OU Athletics and drive their involvement and attendance at OU Athletics Events.
  • Work with Digital Strategy team on enhancing the Boom Squad Student Section social media presence to promote OU Athletics and drive engagement.

Sooner Jr. Kids Club:

  • Assist the Director of Fan Engagement & Community Relations with the continued development and marketing efforts of the Sooner Jr. Kids Club. 
  • Assist with creating unique events and experiences related to the Sooner Jr. Kids Club membership.
  • Assist with ideating the Sooner Jr. Kids Club kit elements and design.

Grassroots Marketing & Advertising:

  • Assist in the execution, scheduling, creative development of advertising related to assigned sports.  
  • Lead the grassroots marketing efforts for gameday awareness of OU Athletics Events and development plan for interns to execute.

Administration:    

  • Assist with sponsorship fulfillment responsibilities related to Sooner Sports Properties (Learfield Property) and other third-party agreements related to assigned sports.
  • Assist with ticket sales campaign coordination related to IMG/Learfield Ticket Solutions and other third-party agreements related to assigned sports.  
  • Assist with overseeing the marketing internship program and staff of 15+ undergraduate students and gameday marketing staff who help us with office hours and event execution.
  • Assist with the intern hires.
  • Assist with the creation and oversight of intern schedule and training.
  • Assist with the construction of career development opportunities for all interns.
  • Maintain knowledge of the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Big 12 Conference, and The University of Oklahoma.   Know, understand, and reinforce commitment to NCAA and Big 12 rules, and report violations or suspected violations to the Athletics Compliance Department.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Job Requirements

Required Education:  Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications, or related field.
Equivalency/Substitution:  Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the bachelor's degree.

  • Communicate and interact effectively, respectfully and appropriately with diverse populations in the Department, the University, and the community. 
  • Willing to work in a team atmosphere where expectations are set and managed while giving staff flexibility to do their assigned tasks as both a leader and/or a follower.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with colleagues, Fans, student-athletes, coaches, and administrators.
  • Strong game production experience.
  • Handle multiple tasks in a high stress environment.
  • Efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)

Certifications:

  • Driver license to operate Community Relations vehicle.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, engage in repetitive motions, walk, communicate, hear and see, including color, depth perception and clarity.
  • Ability to occasionally lift 30-50 pounds.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Experience in working with the public-school systems, collegiate student-athletes and other non-profit organizations.
  • Marketing background in a division 1 athletics department with experience in game production, ticket sales campaigns and fan experience improvement effort.
  • High ability and comfort level with public speaking and/or speaking in front of large crowds during community appearances and school assemblies.
