Summary

The Research Technician I position will support our research program investigating the microenvironment of brain tumors (gliomas) in the context of tumor growth and response to hyperthermia. Performs responsible research work that requires planning, completing, and occasionally supervising limited research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the supervisor. The RT will be involved in a Laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) project on mouse brain tumors. The RT will perform research tasks, image analysis of animals and analyze data and report to supervisor. Experience with animal surgery and tissue culture is required.

Job Duties

  • Performs basic molecular biology techniques.
  • Collects and compiles data.
  • Documents and interprets results of experiments.
  • Performs animal surgery experiments.
  • Maintains tissue cultures for animal surgery experiments.
  • Works closely and interacts with lab personnel to assist them in their animal experiments and surgery.
  • Performs routine sample processing for IHC analysis.
  • Tracks inventory of reagents/supplies required and maintains log records etc. for the animal surgery.
  • Develops expertise in new technologies for animal surgery (laser interstitial thermal therapy).
  • Assists with protocol development and compliance for laser surgery of animals FLOW sorting and analysis Cultures virus-specific cells required for animal surgery experiments. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with animal surgery and tissue culture is required.
  • Be enthusiastic, organized, technically skilled. Be responsible for helping to manage the laboratory and to perform LITT experiments. Recent college graduate who is seeking additional years of hands-on research experience.
