Summary

The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst Senior will be a key player responsible in the design, development, and maintenance of reports, graphs, dashboards, and portal interfaces appropriate for each stakeholder within the School of Information (UMSI).They will be responsible for setting priorities to ensure the most immediate data needs are met in the timeframes required.

They will manage and administer all aspects of UMSI’s data structures to support comprehensive data collection, loading, and extraction for complex reporting and analyses. They will gather, analyze, and interpret data to identify opportunities to display information that impacts the internal stakeholders we serve.

Candidates for this position are expected to be comfortable leveraging a wide variety of resources (such as documentation, subject matter experts, etc.) to understand the data environments involved in their work. They are also expected to serve as an innovator in the ways we approach, analyze, and present data to stakeholders. Candidates should be able to function independently, deliver projects in a timely and effective manner, and enjoy “thinking outside the box.”

What You'll Do

As a BI Analyst, a typical day will likely include:

Collaborating with colleagues on the umsi.computing.services team to manage priorities, discuss ideas, and work together to conceptualize potential solutions.

Interacting with new stakeholders to determine their business requirements and data needs. For existing stakeholders, provide updates on progress, share results, and solicit feedback.

Developing detailed timelines and resource plans for new projects, including defining requirements, identifying risks, creating documentation (team and user-facing), reporting status to team and stakeholders, and tracking any issues that arise.

Building and designing analytics-based tools, reports, and dashboards to convey information and data in meaningful ways

Maintaining existing tools, reports, and dashboards (including any documentation) to ensure the dataset information stakeholders and program leads need is readily available

Researching accessibility and inclusivity standards for user interfaces to ensure our tools, reports, and dashboards are accessible to everyone

Brainstorming ways to utilize new and emerging technologies, as well as tracking trends in the industry
