Position Summary:

The ­­­­­Computer Science/Information Technology visiting faculty position supports the Information Technology and Cybersecurity programs and strategic operation of the Computing and Business Technology Department. Computing and Business Technology Department faculty work as members of an instructional team of full- and part-time colleagues to consistently deliver high quality instruction to students. Faculty are expected to teach 15 credits per semester, demonstrate innovation and excellence in curriculum and co-curricular planning, foster an atmosphere of active intellectual and creative engagement in and out of the classroom, and contribute to the advancement and overall welfare of the College community. Faculty will use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

1. Teach core introductory and general education courses in computer science, information technology, data science, programming, game development, or related fields.
2. Facilitate student mastery of core learning outcomes using the most relevant and scholarly tools available.
3. Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high quality curriculum.
4. Actively engage students in critical thinking, meta-cognitive processes, and advancement of critical communication skills.
5. Model and cultivate open-minded inquiry, an appreciation for diverse perspectives, and creative problem-solving.
6. Provide service to the College and community to support and enhance the College mission.
7. Serve on committees and participate in department meetings.
8. Maintain currency in academic discipline and pedagogy by actively participating in professional organizations at the state, regional, and national levels and by engaging in other professional development opportunities.
9. Appreciate and articulate the value of a strong general education program and use that framework to mentor adjunct faculty members and students.
10. Uphold and contribute to the Frederick Community College Strategic Plan.
Required Minimum Qualifications
1. Master’s Degree in in one of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Interactive Media, Game Development, Modeling & Simulation, Robotics, Computer Engineering, or Data Science
2. Experience teaching in multiple areas related to computer science and cybersecurity
3. Previous work experience related to the Computer Science, Interactive Media, Game Development, Modeling & Simulation, Robotics, Computer Engineering, or Data Science discipline areas.
Desired Qualifications
1. Experience in teaching programming/digital media/game development/3D animation/data science courses, such as Java, C#, Python, R system, SAS, Blender, Unreal, Autodesk Maya, Tableau, Talend, Hadoop, MapReduce, Apache Hive, or Apache Pig
2. Adaptability in deploying cutting-edge software in teaching data science and gaming courses
3. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
4. Experience or interest in alternative instructional modes related to both classroom instruction and distributed learning
