Direct the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), the Cytotechnology, and the Nuclear Medicine Technology programs, (approximately 20-25 graduates/year), including (but not limited to): advising students, coordinating internship applications and interviews, annual visitation of internship sites, internship monitoring, ensuring courses meet internship site requirements, negotiating contracts with internship sites, conducting annual assessments of these programs. Approximately 50% of the teaching load (10-12 credits/year) is devoted to serving in this capacity.

A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.

The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.

May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university’s additional locations, as assigned.

The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.

All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).

This position will advise undergraduate majors.

This position will supervise/advise graduate students.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses Hematology/Intro to Immunology (BIOL 430), General Microbiology (BIOL 270), and/or Orientation to Clinical Lab Science (BIOL 175), with additional courses if load permits, such as Blood Banking/Urinalysis (BIOL 380).

Develop a sustainable research/scholarly program and conduct research
Required Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in a biological science (conferred on an official transcript at the time of application) or an area closely related to this position AND a minimum of one of the following: 1) Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology OR 2) Active certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP), Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) OR 3) Completed a clinical laboratory training program.

Doctorate in Medical Laboratory Science or a related discipline, such as Biological Sciences, with relevant clinical laboratory experience.

Demonstrated ability to develop affiliations with new internship sites and/or maintain existing affiliations.

Research, creative and/or scholarship interests that are compatible with Minnesota State Mankato.
Other Requirements
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.

The Department of Biological Sciences has approximately 700 undergraduate students pursuing BS degrees in Biology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, and Agriculture Science, and 45 graduate students seeking MS degrees in Biology or Environmental Sciences. The Department currently has 20 tenure-track faculty.
