BASIC FUNCTION:

This position will be a key member of the HUTRC team and will be responsible for supporting all research activities, in addition to proposal development, project management, etc. The selected candidate will assist in the continued growth of the research business of the Center and the University as a whole.

SUPERVISORY

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Involves no responsibility or authority for the direction of others.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Demonstrate a working knowledge in Transportation/Traffic Engineering and Research, including traffic analysis for infrastructure modifications and site development projects, and crash data analytics. Performs research projects, assists in grant proposal and management activities. Internal contacts include Dr. Stephen Arhin in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as well as staff and interns involved in the different projects at the Transportation Research Center.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Conduct research in Transportation and Traffic Engineering issues
Perform crash data analysis and safety investigations
Perform and/or manage analytical tasks including traffic data collection and data manipulation
Perform and/or manage capacity analyses on intersections and roadway networks
Conduct microsimulation traffic analyses on intersections and roadway networks using transportation planning/engineering software
Prepare written reports and presentations of project and research findings
Prepare research and project proposals
CORE COMPETENCIES:

Good oral and written communication skills
Capability of managing field staff/technicians
Experience in traffic analysis software (HCS, Synchro, PetraPro, VISSIM/VISUM, micro-simulation) for planning, operations, and design purposes
Working knowledge of database development/statistical analysis background
Demonstrate working knowledge and understanding of industry-related analyses and development criteria/concepts
Must be able to develop technical documents in Microsoft Office.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants should have received, by the job start date, a master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering or related area of study.
