Provide leadership and direction in the development and implementation of curricula, academic programs, outside resource development, and all activities of the College; plan, direct, and coordinate the operational, student, personnel, and budgetary activities of the College.

Job Function:

Provide leadership and direction in the development and implementation of curricula, academic programs, outside resource development, and all activities of the College; plan, direct, and coordinate the operational, student, personnel, and budgetary activities of the College.

Minimum Education:

An earned doctorate in the candidate's academic discipline.

Minimum Experience:

Overall qualifications which merit a faculty appointment at a senior rank with tenure within one of the academic units of the university; demonstrated excellence in teaching. Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Freedom of Speech.

Preferred Experience:

Experience in honors education; experience in developing external funding and participation in fund-raising activities; participation in national organizations relevant to Honors College and the Honors experience. Liberal Arts and Humanities experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide innovative direction and leadership in the development, coordination, administration, and evaluation of honors programs and curricular offerings, and administer all aspects of honors education within the university in order to maintain and to further develop its national status and reputation as a distinguished Honors College.
  • Promote and support strong faculty- student activities designed to enhance students’ academic experience at the University; Support, nurture, and promote excellence in all academic endeavors.
  • Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of excellence in teaching, scholarly productivity, and service of the faculty; Encourage and support honors students in their academic and personal development.
  • Work with a wide variety of departments to recruit outstanding faculty to teach within the Honors curriculum and to participate in or assist with other Honors initiatives.
  • Develop and advance the Honors College core curriculum in the Sciences, Humanities, Fine Arts, and Social Sciences; globalize the curriculum; promote interdisciplinary collaboration among the faculty and students. Support and grow undergraduate research.
  • Work with the Academic Colleges, departments, and the Office of Admissions to recruit outstanding students to the university; represent the College at preview days, receptions, and other functions for prospective students.
  • Actively engage in philanthropy and provide leadership in working with the Ball State University Foundation to further secure external gifts, grants, and funding to support activities related to honors education.
  • Assign and review work, orient and train staff, and make recommendations in all areas related to supervision, including but not limited to interviewing and selection, compensation, discipline, performance appraisal, and training and career development of personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Act as fiscal agent for the college and allocate funds and resources in a manner designed to achieve excellence.
  • Promote a professional environment that advances inclusive excellence among students, faculty, and staff;
  • Serve as a passionate advocate for the college, its students, and faculty, while also engaging as an institutional leader;
