Position Summary:
Located in the ancestral homeland of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples, the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is seeking a Dean for the School of Education (SOE), located in Juneau, Alaska. This position will provide leadership, and promote student success, faculty excellence, diversity, and inclusion throughout our programs offered statewide. The SOE is recognized for developing effective and committed educators and educational leaders for Alaska. We are committed to partnering with P-12, educational organizations, Alaska Native/American Indian organizations, and Tribes to advance the education of those invested in serving P-12 students throughout the state.

Duties:
%The Dean is the educational leader of the SOE overseeing academic and administrative functions, and is responsible for the following: Advancing the mission and vision of the University of Alaska (UA) system, UAS, and the SOE in a collaborative, equitable, and inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives; Embracing a demonstrated commitment to shared governance; Working effectively with faculty, staff, students, Alaska Native/American Indian organizations, Tribes, and other community partners to promote excellence in teaching, research, and service with a focus on Alaska's unique needs and opportunities; Supporting the faculty's foundational commitment to equity and diversity; Providing leadership, management, and advocacy for strategic and budgetary planning; Contributing to faculty and staff recruitment, professional development, evaluation, and employee relations; Serving as an innovative and dynamic advocate for the SOE and its programs; Assisting faculty and staff in the facilitation of the continued development and implementation of a shared framework; Assisting faculty with maintaining the educational effectiveness of the SOE's academic programs through knowledge of the data, including data analysis and interpretation; Upholding standards of rigor and academic excellence; Overseeing and facilitating external accreditation process, such as Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP); Promoting interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, inter-college, and internal collaboration, cooperation, and research across the UA system, and with external partners.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Experience with budget management.
• Experience with education accreditation systems, such as CAEP.
• Experience writing or administering grants or other external funding.
• Experience in collaboration and advocacy with public officials on policy issues.
• Experience in using digital productivity tools (i.e., Google documents, Zoom).
• Familiarity with delivery of distance education.
• Effective and committed work with families, schools, non-profit, Alaska Native/American Indian organizations, Tribes, communities, as well as state and federal agencies.

Typical Experience:
Earned doctorate, or doctorate expected within a reasonable timeframe, in a degree program appropriate to serving as Dean of the SOE;

Experience as full-time faculty in an institution of higher education (Tenure and Associate rank or higher, preferred);

Three or more years of leadership experience at the program, associate dean, or similar level in a P-12 or postsecondary setting;

Experience with rural P-12 schools;

Experience with Indigenous populations of students;

Familiarity in working with non-traditional students;

Experience supporting professional development for faculty and staff;

Experience in collaborative leadership, including conflict resolution.

Required Education or Training:
Earned doctorate, or doctorate expected within a reasonable timeframe, in a degree program appropriate to serving as Dean of the SOE;

Three or more years of full-time teaching, research, and/or administrative experience in a postsecondary setting;

Three or more years of leadership experience at the program, associate dean, or similar level in a P-12 or postsecondary setting;

Salary Information:
