Rider University invites applications for a part-time Piano Technician. The successful candidate will have experience tuning and maintaining a diverse inventory of acoustic instruments and must demonstrate the ability to regulate, voice, and tune pianos to concert level quality. Tuning ability and stability of tuning is vital to this position. This position is responsible for helping to maintain the Lawrenceville campus’s fleet of nearly 100 acoustic pianos including regular tunings, tunings for university concerts and productions, and basic repairs. This position supports all majors within Westminster Choir College and the Department of Performing Arts, housed within the College of Arts & Sciences.

Position Requirements

  • Ability to tune grand and upright pianos efficiently and with stability.
  • Ability to do necessary and routine repairs such as replace/repair broken strings, pins, keys, and other action parts.
  • Effective interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills required to work with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Must be flexible for occasional evening and weekend work will be required for special concert tunings or during peak periods.
  • Applicants should have at least three years’ experience in tuning, regulating, repairing and maintaining pianos for artist-level teaching and performance.

Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Registered Piano Technician certification in Piano Technicians Guild is desirable but not required.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who received formal training through a factory program, classes from PTG, or certification from a piano technician course such as North Bennett Street School.
  • Rebuilding ability is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with harpsichord and/or organ tuning and repair is preferred.
