Job Description

The School of Art at Northern Arizona University seeks a dynamic, creative, collaborative, and dedicated leader/artist/educator to serve as Director, commencing on July 1, 2023.

The Director will provide inclusive leadership that advances School of Art degree programs, promotes faculty input and shared faculty governance across academic ranks, and advances the profile of the department. We seek an individual who recognizes the complexity of the School of Art, who understands, values and connects with emerging scholarship and creative work in the wide range of fields represented in the school, and who can engage and collaborate with the community and the university. The candidate should also understand the unique needs and operations of facilities that house art-specific equipment for studio classes, art education and interior design, and demonstrate support for traditional and emerging technologies. While the specialization is open, we seek a candidate whose creative practice and teaching interests complement our current strengths and can contribute to one of the disciplines represented in the School of Art. The Director also oversees the Beasley Gallery; teaching responsibilities include one course per year

The School of Art currently houses three degree programs: BFA in Studio Art (with emphases in Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Printmaking, and New Media), BS Art Education, and BS Interior Design. These programs are all delivered in Flagstaff. The Interior Design program is also delivered in Scottsdale. The School of Art currently has 22 full-time (tenure-track, tenured, and non-tenure track) faculty, several part-time faculty members, and one program assistant. The School of Art serves over 700 majors and minors, and contributes to the General Studies program through its Art Foundations courses. For more information, please visit http://nau.edu/art/.
