Rowan University’s Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics Education (STEAM Education) seeks to hire a new faculty member to join the Health and Physical Education program team to prepare PK-20 Health and Physical pre-professional to become future school leaders who provide safe, democratic learning environments in which all students have access to experiences that strengthen their academic, personal, social, and physical well-being.

The Health and Physical Education program seeks to collaborate across colleges, disciplines, and communities, to positively impact and develop local, regional, national and global PK-20 health and physical education professionals focused on promoting quality, accessible, comprehensive physical activity programming, necessary to eliminate health disparities, and to improve the health and well-being of all people. The program builds upon Rowan University’s strategic pillars (access, affordability, quality, and serves as an economic engine) and furthers our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise in Health and Physical Education Teacher Education.

Successful candidates will be expected to teach foundation and pedagogy courses in Health and Physical Education. Candidates will also be expected to develop and maintain an active, highly visible, extramurally funded research program with outstanding scholarship, and to demonstrate excellence in mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students. The individual will have research impact, as reflected in high-quality publications, and the ability to build a funded and sustainable research program. Educators who bring diverse perspectives to the university or who have capacity to mentor and advise students who are members of groups that have been historically and are currently marginalized in the U.S. and in U.S. schools are encouraged to apply. The position will carry a rank commensurate (Assistant or Associate Professor) with the candidate’s prior experience and record.

The successful candidate will:

Have a PhD or EdD in Health and/or Physical Education or a related field (by September 1, 2023)
Have a minimum of 3 years of successful traditional or non-traditional teaching with PreK-12-grade student populations
Demonstrate a commitment to working in an environment devoted to collaboration, collegiality, professional development, diversity, scholarly inquiry, student learning, civic responsibility, and respect for all people.
Demonstrate a commitment to the implementation of a philosophical stance of social justice and sociocultural theoretical framework in scholarship, teaching, and service.
