Summary

The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a full-time Senior Business Operations Associate. The candidate will work closely with Center Administration to oversee business operations for the Center’s research, education and clinical missions which have a combined budget of over $6M. The candidate will support business operations across mission areas including financial analysis, human resources and compliance.

The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy is comprised of 19 primary faculty members, 33 secondary faculty, 26 scholars, and over 30 fellows and staff. The Center conducts cutting-edge multidisciplinary research on perennial and emerging ethical issues arising in clinical practice and in biomedical research in a changing healthcare environment. Our research informs our teaching, clinical practice, and contributions to the development of health and science policy at the local, national, and international levels.

Job Duties

  • Assists Center Administrator and Director with annual budget, forecasting revenue and expenses for clinical, education, and research missions. 
  • Manages daily operations for the Center in the areas of financial management, business operations, human resources, and compliance.
  • Establishes financial and operational systems to monitor, control, and verify expenditures.
  • Performs monthly budget forecasting for overall Center budget and individual research, clinical, education, and unrestricted accounts.
  • Performs regular account reconciliation and monitoring for 50+ accounts, including budget revisions, supplemental payment processing, and effort reporting. 
  • Monitors cost and effort reporting for faculty and staff. 
  • Creates routine and specialized financial reports, templates, and presentations to present to faculty and leadership.
  • Develops financial models, analyzes data, identifies trends, and recommends actions Center leadership can take to improve operational efficiency.
  • Identifies and communicates issues or changes related to finance, operations, human resources, or compliance, develops solutions, and works with leadership to implement them. 
  • Participates in the preparation and submission of business plans and proposals for new initiatives and growth.
  • Ensures the ongoing review and development of process improvements to maximize business productivity.
  • Performs pre- and post-award related tasks in support of Center faculty. 
  • Assists with special projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Four years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or related); a relevant master's degree may be considered in lieu of two years of experience.
  • Extensive Excel knowledge including pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUP, etc.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with SAP, research finance or healthcare specific knowledge. 
  • Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
