Job Description

Applications are invited for post-doctoral positions in the Cosmological Physics and Advanced Computing Group (CPAC) Group in Argonne National Laboratory’s High Energy Physics Division. Cosmological research within CPAC covers theory, modeling, and observations targeted at dark energy, dark matter, primordial fluctuations, inflation, and neutrinos. Theory and modeling activities emphasize multi-wavelength survey science, the galaxy-halo connection, cluster cosmology, and large-scale cosmological simulations. Analysis efforts cover topics such as CMB power spectra, CMB lensing, galaxy clustering, redshift-space distortions, and weak and strong gravitational lensing. The observational focus is on optical sky surveys (DES, DESI, Rubin Obs/LSST, SPHEREx), CMB instrumentation and observations (CMB-S4, SPT), and cross-correlations between the two. Applicants for group-wide positions will automatically be considered for an additional open position working with Andrew Hearin on forward-modeling galaxy SEDs and the galaxy--halo connection, and Lindsey Bleem on galaxy cluster cosmology; applicants with particular interest in these research areas are encouraged to reach out directly to Hearin and Bleem, respectively.

Staff members include Matt Becker, Amy Bender, Lindsey Bleem, Clarence Chang, JD Emberson, Salman Habib, Katie Harrington, Andrew Hearin, Katrin Heitmann, Eve Kovacs, Patricia Larsen, Adrian Pope, Nesar Ramachandra, Esteban Rangel, and Gensheng Wang. Current postdocs are Alex Alarcon, Michael Buehlmann, Nicholas Frontiere, Riccardo Gualtieri, Florian Keruzore, Zhaodi Pan, Markus Rau, and Gillian Beltz-Mohrmann; the group also includes a number of graduate and undergraduate students.

Postdocs can benefit from strong collaborations with applied mathematicians, computer scientists, device physicists, materials scientists, and statisticians; they will also have access to state-of-the-art microfabrication facilities and world-leading supercomputing resources. Interactions with research groups at Fermilab, the University of Chicago, and Northwestern University are highly encouraged.

Position Requirements

Applicants should send:

1) a CV

2) a brief statement of research interests

3) Three letters of recommendation to be sent to cosmojobs@anl.gov by December 2, 2022.

Non-email correspondence should be sent to Katrin Heitmann, HEP Division, Argonne National Laboratory, 9700 South Cass Avenue, Bldg. 360, Argonne, IL 60439, USA.
