Job Description

Summary

The Coordinator, Patient Support Services performs health insurance enrollment activities, eligibility screening, outreach, and updates eligibility documentation with patients who are homeless.  The ideal candidate will  assess client’s health insurance status and/or needs, assists with applications for various publicly sponsored healthcare care insurance programs and plans. This position reports to Outreach and Enrollment supervisor. 

Job Duties

  • Manages pre-registration work queue in medical record system.
  • Assists  with new patient eligibility and registration.
  • Assists with insurance verification for clients.
  • Completes prior authorizations.
  • Gathers required documentation.
  • Provides follow up and troubleshooting during the enrollment process.
  • Provides structured patient education about health coverage options.
  • Assists with renewal applications.
  • Completes accurately, and in a timely manner, all-necessary forms, notes, database updates, and reports, and submits such documentation to his or her supervisor within designated timelines.  
  • Provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services and health education to clients.  
  • Maintains a professional disposition while working with a multidisciplinary health care team.  
  • Participates actively in regular supervisory and team meetings, training sessions, conferences, seminars and independent study.  Participates in program and operational planning.  
  • Prints, copies, and/or scan forms, flyers, brochures, reports etc..
  • Performs other tasks or special assignments as necessary to maintain proper operation and patient care.
  • Adheres to all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Self-directed with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Can operate small office equipment, including copier, telephone, and personal computer.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and electronic health records.
  • Experience working with medically underserved populations preferred
