JOB SUMMARY:

Coppin State University, a fully accredited HBCU/MI institution and member of the University System of Maryland, is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Mathematics position with Ph.D. in mathematics for the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Founded in 1900, Coppin is a model urban, residential liberal arts university located in the northwest section of the City of Baltimore that provides academic programs in the arts and sciences, teacher education, nursing, graduate studies, and continuing education. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science currently has two undergraduate options, Mathematics and Computer Science, and faculty candidate will be encouraged to develop statistics and/or data science related certification program. Outstanding candidates from all areas of mathematics and mathematical sciences will be considered. The MCS department is especially interested in mathematics faculty with focus on teaching a variety of undergraduate mathematics core-courses. The candidates must be familiar with one or more professional computational packages such as Mathematica/MATLab, R and other programing languages such as C++, Pythan etc. Candidates with established research agenda, grant writing skills and advanced mathematics course-curriculum development interest are strongly encouraged to apply. Also, ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments is a plus. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Twelve credits hours (4 courses) teaching at the undergraduate level.
Manage and help develop the mathematics undergraduate research and instructional materials and mathematical computing-labs projects.
Development of face-to-face and Online instructional materials.
Continually refine curricula and introduce new trendy and high-demand courses and certificate programs.
Research or scholarly activity involving publications and grant-proposal writing.
Collaboration with STEM Educators to help develop new programs (secondary educations, undergraduate research program, and other culturally responsive students and teacher education grant initiatives).
Collaborate with Coppin’s education department (Praxis Secondary Preparation, meetings, workshops, etc.).
Assist in coordinating freshman mathematics and MCS department’s students outreach activities including faculty development workshops.
University-wide, College-wide and Department-wide committee assignments.
Advising and Mentoring majors, provide student’s instructional support and clubs activities.
Participating in University-wide faculty and students outreach activities.
Design and develop faculty development workshops delivered in the MCS department and externally in the professional conferences.
Required Qualifications
EDUCATION:
PhD. in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and or related field at the time of appointment and must have a commitment to quality teaching, a strong research and professional-service record; we will also consider a Master’s Degree in Cyber Security Engineering with a PhD in interrelated field.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience of College level Mathematics and related subjects teaching to a diverse group of students including minority students population.
Evidence of an ability to maintain an active scholarly research agenda.
Evidence of grant activity and funded and unfunded attempts.
Evidence of cross-disciplinary activity as it relates to STEM Education Innovation and culturally responsive and cultural intelligent curriculum and instruction.
Current certification as a secondary mathematics classroom teacher a major asset.

KNOWLWDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent fundamental programming skills, such as C , C++, Python and R; Ability in working with professional Integrated Development Environment systems, is highly desirable.
Ability to lead undergraduate research projects and preparing students for conference presentations.
