Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the Mass Spectrometry Technology group in Drug Safety R&D Andover, MA for a highly motivated and innovative Ph.D. graduate. The candidate will utilize the entire suite of cutting-edge mass spectrometry technologies to elucidate changes in proteome phosphorylation in response to drug treatment. The newly established approaches will lead to the implementation of highly-plexed phospho-peptide assays for relevant signaling pathways across different therapeutic modalities. This offers a platform compatible with the use of chemical biology for target engagement and spatial resolution proteomics techniques. This role is within the state-of-the-art mass spectrometry lab in Global Discovery, Investigative and Translational Sciences (G-DITS) organization and brings multidisciplinary opportunities across in Drug Safety R&D and Pfizer. The expectation is that this work will lead to publications in top-tier journals, enable the candidate to gain a broader knowledge in drug development and toxicology discipline, and set the foundation for a career in industry or academia. This position requires a strong background in biochemistry, hands-on experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics and demonstrated leadership in emerging technologies and innovation.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of targeted (PRM, SureQuant) and unbiased mass spectrometry to affinity enrich and elucidate peptide phosphorylation.
Ability to implement highly-plexed assays for selected signaling pathways using hiRes MS (Thermo Exploris 480 and Eclipse Tribrid).
Deliver kinase activity profiling platform compatible with affinity-/activity-based approaches and spatial resolution techniques such as phosphoproteome analysis from FFPE sections isolated by laser capture microdissection.
Demonstrate the utility of the developed methodologies by their application for hypothesis generation and testing of the mechanism of toxicities.
Participate in all phases of mass spectrometry laboratory operations including technology evaluations, development of sample preparation and separation methods, maintenance and troubleshooting of chromatography and mass spectrometers.
Apply analytical mindset, strong problem-solving, and trouble-shooting skills to enable technology and scientific advancements.
Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are carried out according to scientific and ethical standards e.g., responsible for electronic notebook record-keeping, and raw data storage.
Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and external/internal presentations.
