The Data Analyst will support the College of Engineering (COE) Dean’s Office by providing data and analysis to facilitate effective decision making. The analyst will present data with contextual intelligence based on an understanding of higher education trends, as well as University and COE requirements.
The Data Analyst position provides direction to ensure COE leadership has access to reliable and relevant data for use in their strategic and operational activities. Reporting to and under the direction of the COE Research Group, the Data Analyst will provide information to answer important strategic questions and support COE decision-making through a variety of analytic activities, data-gathering tasks, and projects. The work will involve consulting with COE administrators to assess what data is relevant to meet objectives, collecting and refining data, producing analyses, synthesizing findings, preparing written and graphical reports, and presenting the results. The position will also support senior leaders to effectively communicate the data to others in presentations and meetings.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience to include extracting data from multiple sources and consolidating, working with complex data sets, analyzing data, interpreting results, and conveying results (often without dedicated report writing tools); equivalent education/experience considered. Must have evidence of highly developed quantitative skills. Experience with data visualization software. Strong working knowledge of database software (e.g., SQL, Access), query/report building tools and MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to handle data requests on short notice and with little direction. Experience must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain appropriate privacy and handle highly sensitive/confidential information. Demonstrated ability to transform data into readily comprehensible reports. Must have a solid understanding of data systems, including data relationships and data modeling. Demonstrated experience in developing predictive models and tools for data analysis. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and incorporate financial data for planning purposes. Ability to address basic to intermediate problems in data and use experience and judgment in taking action and/or advising management on solutions. Ability to effectively and concisely present ideas, both orally and in a written form, to both technical staff and customers. Experience must demonstrate excellent organizational skills. Ability to provide superior customer service. Demonstrates an ability to take direction well, to work well independently and as a member of a team.
Data analyst experience in a higher education environment. Experience with Tableau and SQL. Knowledge of basic statistics and data science.
